Nuffield Health to build £50m private hospital in Manchester

Hospital provider, Nuffield Health has announced plans to develop a £50m private tertiary care hospital at Manchester Metropolitan University's former Elizabeth Gaskell campus in Manchester.

The new hospital will be built on the five acre site currently occupied by the university’s faculty of health, psychology and social care, which will move to the new £140m Birley Fields campus in Hulme.

Nuffield Health has entered a partnership with Manchester Metropolitan University which will see them work together on research, development and training for local healthcare professionals.

Nuffield's Group Chief Executive, David Mobbs said, “We are very much looking forward to the collaboration with the university a partnership which we believe will serve as a springboard to significantly improve the region’s healthcare provision and make a lasting contribution to the economy and the general wellbeing of everyone who lives and works in the North West.'

Construction work on the new hospital is expected to start at the beginning of 2015 with completion likely to be in 2 years.
