New baker joins Sodexo Prestige at Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh

The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (RBGE) is celebrating National Cake Week (3-9 October) with the appointment of a new baker to its Terrace Café.

Zara Forbes will join the Sodexo Prestige Venues & Events catering team, who operate the site’s cafés and restaurant, to provide a range of sweet treats for customers.

Already dubbed the ‘Botanics’ Baker’, Zara joined the Sodexo team following a successful summer supplying cakes to the Edinburgh International Book Festival, which is also catered for by the company.

Keen to introduce the Garden’s home-grown produce, Zara’s quirky creations will include chocolate and courgette loaf, chocolate and beetroot loaf as well as classics like lemon drizzle, carrot cake and gingerbread.

Paul Mitchell, Catering Services Director for Sodexo at RBGE, said, “Zara’s range of traditional cakes and sweet treats with a veggie twist, went down a storm at the Book Festival and we can’t wait to make her baking a regular feature of the Garden’s offering.

“As the Botanics’ Baker, she has the perk of being able to access fresh, seasonal ingredients from our market garden, which is just a stone’s throw away from the kitchen.

“To celebrate National Cake Week, Zara will be creating a different ‘cake of the day’ with the first 10 customers through the door of the Terrace Café, receiving a slice and a hot drink, on the house.”

The free cake and hot drink offer will run at the Terrace Café from 3-9 October and is limited to the first 10 customers each day.
