Rebel brewery launches first beer

The Republic of Liverpool Beer Company has launched its first beer titled Northern Powerhouse... My Arse, in keeping with the firm's belief that the only part of this country that matters is London and the South East.

The hoppy 4.4 percent ABV drink was revealed at a special event in Liverpool’s Ship & Mitre pub, where regulars and invited guests were given the first opportunity to taste the flagship ale.

Bottles of the new beer are being sent to Lord Neill, the ex-Treasury Minister and champion of the Northern Powerhouse.

The new ale can be enjoyed in 10 pubs and bars across Merseyside: The Ship & Mitre; The Vernon Arms; The Blackburne Arms; The Caledonian; The Pilgrim; McKenzies Whisky Bar; Blues Bar, Crosby; Stamps Bar, Crosby; The Freshfield, Formby; The Old Bank, Waterloo.

The firm's website states: 'We set up the Republic of Liverpool Beer Company Ltd because we are passionate about our handcrafted real ales, and equally passionate about the fantastic city we live in.

'For decades Liverpool has had a rebellious attitude unlike any other city in Britain, so much so that it led many other parts of the country to resent us. We stand up to establishment, refusing to lie down and be walked over.'
