Windermere hotel closes for £16m redevelopment

Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa in the Lake District has closed its doors this week to undergo a £16m redevelopment.

The project will see the complete renovation of the existing property, with a full upgrade and refurbishment of all existing rooms, new outdoor leisure facilities, an atrium, spa and a new restaurant concept ‘Blue Smoke'

The hotel is expected to reopen in April after the first phase of the project is complete, before the creation of a new luxury accommodation block later in the summer that will feature a further 32 suites and studio rooms as well as a club lounge and roof garden.

Simon Berry, chairman and managing director of English Lakes Hotels Resorts and Venue, which owns the property along with four others across the Lake District and Lancashire, said the redevelopment is a “really exciting” new chapter for the hotel.

“This stunning building has been here for over 300 years and this will be the biggest change it has gone through in its history,” he said.
