Deliveroo confirms launch of subscription service

Deliveroo, the online restaurant delivery service, has launched a subscription service aimed at regular customers.

Deliveroo Plus allows customers to pay a monthly rate of £8.89 or £89 er year instead of a delivery fee on each order.

The service is initially only available to existing customers across Manchester, Edinburgh, Birmingham, Glasgow, Brighton and York for this week.

It comes after the meal delivery app secured a £120 m investment last August to expand into new markets and develop its RooBox concept, which allows restaurants to offer delivery-only kitchens in certain locations.

Dan Warne, UK and Ireland MD at Deliveroo, said 'Ordering great food from great restaurants on Deliveroo is an increasingly big part of many people's daily lives and Deliveroo PLUS is all about rewarding them'.

The company also branched out into the alcohol delivery market last year in partnership with brands including BrewDog and Majestic Wines.

The company, which operates in 12 countries and employs more than 1,000 staff, saw overall orders grow 650% in 2016.
