ALMR launches new dining & drinking out manifesto

The Association of Licensed Multiple Retailers (ALMR) has launched its latest manifesto to encourage both national and local governments to support the eating and drinking out sector.

The Manifesto, launched at the ALMR’s 2017 Spring Conference, provides policy-makers with a clear outline of the contributions being made by the sector, and outlines key asks for the further support of pubs, restaurants and bars.

ALMR Chief Executive, Kate Nicholls (pictured) said, “The sudden announcement of a snap General Election has given us an opportunity to engage with politicians who will be keen to court votes and we can ensure that promoting our sector is on the agenda.'

The manifesto’s main asks:
– Championing the high street through root and branch reform of business rates
– Ensuring Brexit delivers for our current and future workforce needs, avoiding a cliff edge
– Supporting our ENTE to deliver a world class customer experience through a transformative policy led by a National Night Czar
– Endorsing our ambitious & dynamic industrial strategy sector deal which develops home grown skills & reduces unnecessary business costs

Nicholls continued, “The sector plays a vitally important role both socially and economically and has been a fantastic provider of employment since the recession, creating 1 in 7 of all new jobs.

“Pubs and restaurants are resilient and vibrant, but they are facing legislative and financial roadblocks that are preventing them from achieving even more. They need support from politicians if they are to invest and grow.

“The ALMR Manifesto outlines the opportunities for policy-makers to support the sector and help support investment in businesses and communities in every region of the UK. This will be absolutely vital if we want to ensure the continued success of the sector and the revitalise the country’s high streets. With the UK withdrawing from the European Union, it is essential that businesses are the best position to succeed.'

Nicholls concluded, “The ALMR has already liaised with the major political parties to champion the sector and the Manifesto will be used extensively in the weeks leading up to the vote. This is a useful resource for communicating the great work the sector does and we look forward to sharing it.”
