Flexible charity packages contribute to strong sales results at Lord’s

Lord’s Cricket Ground, which is owned by Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), has seen a significant increase in take-up of its specially tailored events for charities, which is reflected in a strong period of sales over the last 12 months.

Bookings for charity packages, which MCC adapts to reflect the specific requirements of each organisation, have risen by 16% when compared to the same period for 2015-6.

Lord’s offers charity packages in iconic spaces such as the Long Room and J.P. Morgan Media Centre. For a starting price of £75 per person, the special offer includes room hire, a drinks reception, a three-course lunch or dinner plus half a bottle of wine per person. The options are tailored to suit each organisation’s specific requirements in exactly the same way that MCC provides flexibility for all its clients.

Charities which have taken up the packages since they were launched include Muscular Dystrophy UK, Marie Curie and Chance to Shine. Amelia Barrett from Marie Curie, which held a fundraising event at Lord’s in February 2017, commented, “The evening went really well and the staff were very attentive. The Long Room is a truly special venue and it was the perfect setting for our event.

'The high expectations of the evening were also followed through by the service and the menu that Lord’s was able provide for our guests. Once we have received the last few outstanding donations, we expect the final figure raised to be around £40,000 which we are delighted about.”

Nick Kenton, MCC Head of Sales, Meetings & Events and Hospitality, commented, “Our meetings & events packages have always been hugely popular and as a club we have a strong commitment to supporting community and charitable projects, so we are delighted that bookings from charities have increased so significantly over the last year.

'We focus on value combined with excellent service for all events at Lord’s and pride ourselves on being able to give organisations the opportunity to use our venue to raise awareness of a good cause.”
