New speakeasy bar & cafe set for Blackburn town centre this summer

Shh! Bar Bistro is set to open this summer in Blackburn town centre, and is just one of the new developments planned as part of the £3m Townscape Heritage Initiative (pictured).

The Art Deco-style cafe and cocktail bar will open its doors on Northgate, one of the streets that forms part of the scheme. The venue, which will feature a baby grand piano, will host live music and jazz nights.

Two former restaurateurs, Michael Mohan and Martin Booth-Morton, are the brains behind the new speakeasy.

The pair could receive up to £45k from the initiative, which is funded by Blackburn with Darwen Council and the Heritage Lottery Fund. The grant would be used to fund restoration of the front of the building and make internal improvements.
