Clapham craft beer pub to collaborate with Rogue Ales for 4th of July

Eastern Bloc’s kitchen takeover at The King & Co in Clapham is being extended by an extra month, thanks to the fantastic response to the initial twice-weekly June pop-up.

The new residency will run daily from 3 to 30 July, to give people more time to sample the popular South London chef’s unique Peckham-inspired Eastern European bites, including innovative Saturday brunch dishes and Sunday roasts.

The renowned craft beer pub will also host two special events in collaboration with top brewery Rogue Ales to celebrate US Independence Day - a Tap Takeover on Tuesday 4th July with free draught samples, plus an exclusive ticketed American Beer and Whiskey Pairing Night on Wednesday 5th July.

Having already built up a loyal fanbase through their previous packed-out sessions at Peckham hotspots like Peckham Springs and The Hope as well as First Aid Box in Herne Hill, Eastern Bloc has continued to impress with their debut residency at The King & Co.

Diners have been delighted by the pop-up chef’s sensational small bites that showcase Peckham's wild and ever-changing produce combined with their take on traditional Eastern European recipes, such as twice-cooked Sticky Pork Belly with Blood Orange Giant Cous Cous Salad and Polenta Fries with Crumbled Feta, Dill and Scotch Bonnet Mayo.

Visitors to Eastern Bloc’s extended kitchen takeover at The King & Co this July can continue to feast on their much-loved sharing small plates celebrating grilling, charring and smoking; like Baba Ganoush Flatbread with Pink Pickled Onion, Tahini and Toasted Almonds, and Passion Fruit Barbecue Chicken Wings; as well as refreshing light summery dishes including Three Citrus Cod Ceviche with Sesame Cucumber Salsa and Fried Capers.

Blackboard specials will be available daily, and on Sundays founder Alex and her team will also serve up bonus roasts such as Jerk Coconut Pork Belly with Roast Potatoes and Fennel Braised Savoy Cabbage.

During the daytime on Saturdays, pub guests can tuck into Eastern Bloc’s inventive brunch menu, ranging from Halloumi Tacos with Harissa Scrambled Eggs and Flaked Hash Brown, to a Buttermilk Chicken Schnitzel Bun with Sumac Fried Egg and Burnt Lemon Hollandaise, and Star Anise Stewed Grapefruit with Lemon Curd Yoghurt, Chia Seeds and Popcorn Granola.

Alongside their acclaimed Bottomless Boozy Brunch, the independent free-house now offers a super value Beery Brunch between 12 noon and 4pm on Saturdays, allowing craft beer fans a bespoke choice of nine thirds from the bar’s extensive keg and cask beer collection to accompany their brunch meal for just £25 per person.

On 4 July, The King & Co will host Rogue Ales & Spirits for a one-night Tap Takeover to celebrate US Independence Day. Starting at 7pm, the event will highlight eight draught beers and a selection of special bottles by one of the USA’s best breweries, with the opportunity to enjoy free samples of favourites like their Brutal IPA and Juniper Pale Ale.

The pub will team up with Rogue Ales & Spirits once again on 5 July for an exclusive American Beer and Whiskey Pairing evening, featuring a tutored tasting of four perfectly matched US beers and whiskies, plus a limited edition beer and whiskey welcome cocktail.
