India-based restaurant group to launch brands in UK

Speciality Restaurants, the India-based, listed operator, is set to bring some of its brands here after setting up a wholly-owned subsidiary for the UK.

Speciality Restaurants started when Anjan Chatterjee opened Only Fish in 1992 offering the nostalgic flavours of Calcutta in Mumbai. The forty by forty square feet crowded dining place drew gourmets and food critics alike.

Now the company has 155 fine and casual dining restaurants in India, Bangladesh and Tanzania. It also owns and operates confectionery stores.

The eateries come under 16 brands including Sweet Bengal, Oh! Calcutta Restaurant, Oh! Calcutta, and Just Biryani offering Indian menus, and Asia Kitchen, Mainland China, Poh and Gong, which serve up Far Eastern cuisine.
