Travelodge opens second Romford site & plans 11 more Essex hotels

As Travelodge opens its second hotel in Romford, Essex, the company announces it is planning to open a further 11 hotels in the county.

The 548th hotel is located in the heart of Romford town centre above The Quadrant shopping centre. The 65-room hotel comes with a Bar Café and represents an investment of £8m and has created 25 new jobs.

Travelodge is currently looking for sites for new hotels in: Basildon, Brentwood, Canvey Island, Chelmsford, Colchester, Epping, Grays Thurrock, Maldon, Rayleigh, Southend-on-Sea and Waltham Abbey.

This expansion programme represents an investment value of approximately £88m for third party investors and will boost Travelodge's portfolio to 25 hotels in Essex and create an additional 350 new jobs.

Travelodge opened its first hotel in Essex in 1986 in Brentwood and today operates 14 hotels across the county.

Bryn Taylor, Travelodge Regional Director for the South East, said, 'We are delighted to be opening our second hotel in the heart of Romford town centre. Essex is a key growth area for Travelodge.

'Following our £1.2 million investment in upgrading the customer experience and raising quality levels across our Essex hotels we have seen a significant rise in sales; interestingly with more business customers staying in our hotels than ever before.

'The Essex economy is growing at pace with increasing visitor numbers to the area. However, there is still a shortage of good quality accommodation at a great value price. Therefore to meet this growing consumer demand we are looking for new hotel sites.'
