Iconic London nightclub to reopen with new pledges

London nightclub Fabric is to reopen as the owners have reached a settlement with Islington Council. A new licensing deal includes pledges to boost security and introduce stricter anti-drug rules.

Also, under-19s will be banned from entering and anyone found with drugs, or who tries to deal drugs, will be banned for life. A new security company will be employed.

The site will use a new ID scanning system for entry to the club, enhanced searching procedures and controls, plus covert surveillance within the club.

The venue was shut in September after the council revoked its licence following the deaths of two clubbers.

Sadiq Khan, Mayor of London said, “I am delighted that this agreement has been reached and that Fabric will now reopen. I have always said that we needed to find a common-sense solution that protects both the future of Fabric and the safety of all clubbers – as this does. I especially want to thank Islington Council for working so hard to come to this solution.

'In her first week in the job, my new Night Czar Amy Lamé held conversations with Islington Council, the Metropolitan Police and Fabric. My Night Czar will be working with other businesses, local authorities and Londoners to maximise the economic and social impact of a growing night time economy. I’ll also soon be announcing a new Chair of the Night Time Commission to work with Amy to help deliver a vision for a truly 24-hour city.”
