Brewer JW Lees snaps up £650k Cheshire restaurant & plans refurb

Casa Matta in Weaverham, Cheshire has been acquired by the north west regional brewer J W Lees, through Fleurets.

Casa Matta’s freehold was marketed off a guide price of £650k, and the premises contained an open plant restaurant as well as car park and gardens.

Lesley Watmough from Fleurets’ Manchester office commented, “Although The property was closed, many people saw the site’s potential and we therefore received high levels of interest.”

The vendor, Trevor Sayle added, “The property had been let to the New Moon Pub Company who unfortunately went into administration. I have strong connections to the village and really wanted to make sure I secured a good future for this property, which would enhance village life.”

Simon Lees-Jones of J W Lees commented, “We are a traditional family brewery and will take a sympathetic approach to refurbishing Casa Matta back as a proper pub in our tenanted estate and changing the name back to the Hanging Gate.

'We look forward to reopening the Hanging Gate in the New Year following an investment. JW Lees remains hungry for acquisitions of both managed and tenanted pubs, as well as hotels, in the North West.”
