£13m attraction planned for Sherwood Forest

Nottinghamshire County Council, together with Discovery Attractions, are seeking approval from Newark and Sherwood District Council to build a 40-acre Discover Robin Hood visitor attraction in Sherwood Forest Park.

If approved, the centre will be called Discover Robin Hood in Sherwood Forest, and will include a medieval fortress, dungeons, a jousting field, a maze, open air theatre, a café and many more attractions.

The plans are being put together with Discovery Attractions, who have worked with attractions including Madame Tussauds and Alton Towers, and will now go forward for planning permission.

The first phase of the project, which includes a new visitor centre, café and shop to replace the existing facilities, would open in summer 2014 if they get the go ahead, while the Discover Robin Hood attraction would welcome its first visitors in spring 2015.

Around 100 jobs will be created and it is hoped the site will generate huge visitor spend for the local economy and vital investment for Sherwood Forest.
