Masterchef finalists bring supper club to Royal Festival Hall

MasterChef duo Billy Wright and Jack Layer, finalists who met on the 2016 BBC cooking show, bring their sell-out ‘Billy and Jack’s Supper Club’ to the top floor of Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall for Summertime 30 July-28 August 2017.

The arts centre’s Royal Festival Hall regularly hosts a food market and range of pop-ups along the riverside but this is the first supper club to take up residence in its stunning St Paul’s Pavilion on the sixth-floor, boasting floor-to-ceiling windows with views of the Thames, Waterloo Bridge and the City of London.

Beginning on Sunday 30 July as part of the ‘British Summertime’ weekend, one of six Summertime themed weekends at Southbank Centre, Wright and Layer will create fun, artistic and inventive sharing plates that celebrate the familiar, much-loved flavours of summer, while showcasing the best seasonal produce available.

Menu highlights include salted Cornish sardines with heritage tomatoes and roasted quinoa, Notting Hill Carnival inspired jerk hanger steak and the boys’ cheeky tribute to Wall’s iconic Fab ice lolly.

Layer said, “I met my fiancé for our first date here at Southbank Centre four years ago so I’m particularly excited to be able to bring our food here. Summer is one of our favourite times of year to cook.

'There are so many amazing ingredients in season and there’s nothing we like more than to share good times with family, friends and colleagues over some delicious food and drink - with the added bonus of the iconic Southbank Centre views over London.”

Wright added, “Beautiful food, booze and a view of the Thames, what could be better. It’s going to be a great month.”

The Masterchef duo’s Billy and Jack’s Supper Club is in partnership with Silent Pool Gin and also sees them teaming up with Clement Worrall Event Caterers to host 40 sittings over the course of a month in St Paul’s Pavilion on the sixth floor of the Royal Festival Hall.

Over the weekend of 10-12 August 2017, the duo also have special guest hosts Alison, Lorna and Giovanna ‘Three Girls Cook’, Masterchef Finalists of 2017, taking over duties.

During the final two weeks (14-28 August), guests will also have the opportunity to sample Layer’s famous coriander cheesecake, described by MasterChef judge John Torode as “breathtakingly brilliant” and widely considered the dish of the series.
