Cattivo opens today in Brixton

Bar and restaurant group, Albion & East has today opened Cattivo, an Italian bar and cocktail club, in London's Brixton.

Cattivo combines laid-back, Italian-inspired restaurant dining at street level, with a decadent below ground cocktail bar, hosting nightly entertainment.

Taking inspiration from Southern Italy, the main menu features Cicchetti, Small and Sharing Plates, Pastas, Ragus and Dolcetti. Cicchetti comprises of a Frico (fried parmesan crisps) as well as Parmesan served by the ounce.

Other highlights include Lamb Ragu (‘nduja, pecorino and pappardelle); Truffle and Pecorino Tortelloni (salsa di noci, fried sage); and Roast Squash Salad (fregola, peas, pine nuts, whipped goat’s cheese, pomegranate and mint).

A meatball selection, all served in a slow-cooked tomato sauce with fat spaghetti and gremolata, includes ricotta with zucchini and spicy pork with fennel. For dessert, there is Italian Grape Cake served with mascarpone or Bombolini with salted caramel butter cream.

Designed to complement the atmosphere of Cattivo’s decadent below ground bar, cocktails have been developed to engage the senses, using a mix of concentrates, mists and infusions.

Highlights from the list include Go Nuts (Zacapa rum, burnt brown sugar, walnut concentrate, served in a wood smoked glass over a big ice cube); Fifty Paces (Chase marmalade vodka, pear vodka, orange juice, Champagne); 901 (901 tequila, Crème De Mure, blackberry and sage compote, fresh squeezed grapefruit juice, agave); and the Skinny Dennis (Brooklyn gin, barrel aged orange bitters, citrus mist, natural quinine tonic syrup, club soda).

A dedicated Spritz menu features the very finest in cocktail creativity such as Bru Spritz (Tequila, Irn Bru reduction, soda water, Prosecco, lemon juice, grapefruit), while six absinthe varieties reference the magic of showtime entertainment.

Cattivo also benefits from having its own gin still, named ‘Victor’, which makes the Cattivo small batch gin.
