£900k Shetland Isles hotel seeks new owner

Scalloway Hotel, situated in the village of Scalloway, six miles west of Lerwick, the capital of the Shetland Isles, has come to market through Christie & Co, with a £900k price tag.

As the only hotel in the village, the Scalloway is highly relied upon and well placed to cater for both tourist and corporate trade on the island.

The three star hotel offers 23 bedrooms, a 40-cover lounge bar, and an award-winning 2 AA Rosette restaurant, the only one on the Northern Isles, catering for up to 40 guests.

Located 30 minutes’ drive from Sumburgh Airport and close to the famous 17th century Scalloway Castle, the Scalloway Hotel is ideally located as a base for visitors as the popularity of the island is grows, with increasing worldwide exposure on TV shows such as Shetland, which recently aired on Netflix.

Having been privately owned and operated since 2008, the Scalloway has built up a sterling reputation and is well known across the island, particularly due to the high quality of the restaurant. The current owners, the McKenzie family, have now decided to sell the hotel in order to retire.

Stuart Drysdale, Director at Christie & Co’s Edinburgh office, who is handling the sale, commented, “The Scalloway Hotel is a true example of a quality, family owned and operated hotel, with emphasis placed on service and quality of stay.

'The owners are looking towards retirement and this well established business will be perfectly suited for an owner operator, with no requirement for any refurbishment or repair costs, as the property and public accommodation have been maintained to an excellent standard throughout.”
