Scottish hotel group, MacDonald Hotels & Resorts is selling 27 sites to a currently unnamed private equity and real estate investor in an undisclosed deal, estimated to be in excess of £190m.

The portfolio being sold includes Rusacks Hotel at St Andrews, the Holyrood Hotel in Edinburgh, Houston House in West Lothian, the Inchyra Hotel & Spa near Falkirk, Crutherland House Hotel in East Kilbride, the Loch Rannoch in Perthshire, and the Cardrona Hotel, Golf & Spa at Peebles.

Beyond Scotland, the following are included in the deal: the five-star sites, the Randolph Hotel in Oxford (pictured) and the Bath Spa, Bath, as well as The Compleat Angler in Marlow, Buckinghamshire, and the Tickled Trout near Preston.

Donald Macdonald and his family, who own the majority of the business, will retain control of 20 hotels and resorts in the UK and Spain, including the four in the Monument business joint-owned with Macdonald chief operating officer Gerry Smith. The Monument hotels are Pittodrie House and Norwood Hall in Aberdeenshire, the Drumossie in Inverness, and Grange Manor at Grangemouth.
