Essex hospital achieves top food hygiene rating


Visitors to The Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow, Essex can be assured that they can get a very good selection of food at the hospital's main restaurant. The catering team has been awarded a top 5-Star food hygiene rating from environmental health officers.

The catering team had an unannounced visit last week from the Harlow Council inspectors and they were delighted to announce that the team have kept their excellent 5 star rating.

The ratings are awarded for the overall delivery of catering services and include stringent checks on cleanliness, food production, traceability of goods and correct documentation, and. The Princess Alexandra Hospital Trust's (PAHT) Alexandra restaurant at the Harlow hospital offers hot and cold food from 7am to 7.30pm.

Rishit Kaul, catering manager, alongside Andreas Wingert, patient catering and improvement lead, explained that the catering team has been working with Environmental Health for two years and developed a very positive working relationship.The environmental health officer commented after her visit: 'Every time I come and visit I see improvements.'

Kaul added, 'Our aim is to have a safe environment that produces food to the highest food safety standards. At Princess Alexandra Hospital we are focused on quality and offering a great service for visitors and staff.'

Michael Meredith, director of strategy, estates and facilities, praised the catering team and said, 'This is a fantastic endorsement of the work and commitment of our catering team to achieve the highest standards and providing high quality food for our patients, visitors and staff.'
