The Great British Porridge Co secures Dragons Den backing

Worthing-based The Great British Porridge Co, that manufactures flavoured instant porridge made with 100% natural ingredients, has secured backing from Tej Lalvani on Dragon's Den.

The latest episode of Dragon’s Den showed Tej Lalvani investing £60k in exchange for 22% of The Great British Porridge Co.

The three flavours are: Goji Berry & Pumpkin Seed, Blueberry & Banana and Strawberry & Peanut Butter. Containing no added sugar, over 10% protein, vegan, dairy-free and gluten-free the product is already available in nearly 600 Sainsbury’s stores.

With such healthy credentials - that echo an increasingly health conscious nation - it is no wonder it has attracted the attention of the supermarket giant and Lalvani, himself no stranger to health being CEO of Vitabiotics, UK’s number one vitamin company.

After a tense pitch with some stumbling over numbers Jacqueline Barleycorn (pictured), founder of The Great British Porridge Co, won over the dragons and received a phenominal five out of five offers.

Speaking about the pitch, Barleycorn, who founded the brand last year, said, “We were amazed and delighted to get such a great response from the Dragons and receive five offers. Tej was always our first choice because of his position in the healthcare industry, it is a perfect fit.

'Before appearing on Dragon’s Den we had always followed Tej and what struck a chord with us was how involved he got with his investments and his reputation for treating people well.

' Hearing Tej’s speech about how much he wanted to work with us to help our business grow just reinforced the fact that he is the right Dragon for us.”
