Northumberland Georgian manor house hotel changes hands

Marshall Meadows Country House Hotel, a handsome 18th century Georgian manor house, near the popular coastal town of Berwick-upon-Tweed, has been sold through Christie & Co off a guide price of £925k to a new company, Marshall Meadows Hotel Ltd.

Surrounded by 12 acres of picturesque gardens and regarded as England’s most northerly accommodation as it lies just a few hundred metres from the Scottish border, Marshall Meadows is a well-known and profitable hotel, which enjoys good levels of repeat business.

Boasting a wealth of period elegance throughout and 19 well-appointed en-suite rooms, many with sea or garden views, the hotel also provides public areas to include a charming bar with views across the lawns and patio, a restaurant with a mezzanine breakfast room, the large Border Function Suite, which is utilised for weddings and events and the Music Room which provides conference and meeting options.

The sellers are brothers, Robert and David Hester who have owned and operated the hotel since 2011 and made the decision to sell to retire from the sector.

Nigel Marcantonio, shareholder of Marshall Meadows Hotel Ltd, said, “We are delighted to have completed the purchase of Marshall Meadows. Upon viewing the property, we immediately saw the potential of the site with its wonderful location, idyllic grounds and the beautiful buildings.

'The hotel will be undergoing an extensive refurbishment and redecoration programme throughout the first half of 2021 and we aim to reopen in the summer.

'The revamped hotel will feature 22 boutique bedrooms, including a stunning master suite with amazing sea views. We are looking forward to this new venture and turning Marshall Meadows into a leading hotel and wedding venue in the North East.”
