Zymurgorium records epic growth in 2021


Zymurgorium, the prolific Manchester-based distillery and creator of award winning, never before seen gins, liqueurs and rums, has recorded epic growth throughout Q3, securing major retail listings, a plethora of new products and increased manufacturing capacity.

Q4 will see new deals with the Co-op and Morrisons, as the brand also celebrates key on-trade deals available to CMBC customers nationwide across the Carlsberg Marston's Brewing Company, Joseph Holts and Las Iguanas estates nationwide.

Having secured a retail listing with the Co-op back in March 2021, seeing the brand’s biggest selling Gins, Zymurgorium Original Manchester Gin and Manchester Marmalade Gin appear in stores across Manchester and Lancashire, Zymurgorium has secured further listings with the retailer, just in time for the festive season.

Zymurgorium will now appear in additional Co-op stores in the Central England region, which will stock the iconic Yard of Gin, a 3 foot tall towering assorted gift creation of 12 gins and gin liqueurs.

The Yard of Gin will be presented on a special FSDU designed by Zymurgorium to display the product in an eye-catching way to captivate the consumer. Zymurgorium have produced a whopping 1760 yards in the first production run having literally gone the extra mile!

Strengthening their retail offer Zymurgorium have been listed regionally with Morrisons across Greater Manchester stocking three Zymurgorium SKUs, FlaGINgo Pink, Original Manchester and Manchester Marmalade Gins.

Zymurgorium saw two limited-edition serves across the national restaurant chain Las Iguanas’ hot list this summer. The two serves, the Pink Gin and Tonic and Pink-itini Cocktail, featured Zymurgorium’s FlaGINgo Pink Gin.

A deal with Carlsberg Marston's Brewing Company, will see the UK pub group stock 6 Zymurgorium SKUs, including two full strength, Manchester Original. Manchester Marmalade and FlaGINgo Pink Gin alongside three gin liqueurs, The original Sweet Violet, Unicorn and FlaGINgo Electric Raspberry,

Zymurgorium have been busy creating a plethora of new products, including the House of Zym triple pack miniature, Yard of Gin (including FSDU for Co-op), a collaboration with Beartown Brewery to create a new Tom Gin “The Cub” and a complete rebrand of all existing Zymurgorium products.

With an increase in new products, Zymurgorium has also increased its manufacturing capacity at its distillery in Irlam, Manchester. Scaling up their advanced bottling facility, 16,000 bottles were recently produced in one shift with four staff without reaching capacity (4.6 KM laid end to end). New mixing and distillery vessels have also been added to service both small and large production requests, alongside a new miniature bottling line.

Managing director of Zymurgorium, Aaron Darke said, “2021 has been a complete whirlwind so far, we had big expansion plans in place and big expectations to meet following on from the effects of the pandemic and Brexit.

“To have secured the retail listings we have, including further listings with the Co-op, Morrisons and Carlsberg Marston Brewing Company we are on track to continue our move firmly into the on and off trade markets and to establish ourselves as a leading spirits producer.

“The further investment into our state of the art production lines means we have increased capacity to cater for demand and with plans in place to continue this growth in Q4 of the year, we are confident and excited for the future.”

The Zymurgorium distillery successfully passed its 2nd SALSA audit with no non conformities, a testament to the hard work of the production and quality team.

This was followed by three new recruits across the sales and HQ functions, as well as excellent production/ warehouse staff recruited via the Government’s Kickstart Scheme- both of which have been offered permanent full time positions.

The brand also celebrated big wins in the 2021 People’s Choice Spirits awards, receiving a winners medal in the Gin Fusion category for Mandarin Dynasty Gin. Additionally they also gained a runner up medal for Manchester Marmalade Gin in the Out Of The Ordinary category.

Looking ahead to Q4, Zymurgorium has secured contract manufacturing opportunities for two well-known high street retailers and overseas clients, exporting to Europe despite the challenges Brexit has presented and will launch its new rum brand, alongside the launch of Zymurgorium POS.

The Zymurgorium distillery based in Irlam, Greater Manchester, conducts its operations all under one roof including distilling, bottling, warehouse, and office functions, with state-of-the-art production and bottling facilities.

The distillery has the incredible capacity to produce nearly 70 million bottles a year, equating to a staggering 20,000km if laid end-to-end.

The business was launched by Darke in 2013 with a multi-million pound investment into the development of a new distillery, state-of-the-art bottling line; whilst developing a range of internal systems including implementation of the SALSA standard.

Known for its distinct industry innovations including the world’s first Parma Violet gin liqueur and the world’s first Ruby Chocolate rum, Zymurgorium has over 30 plus spirits and liqueurs in its range, including a host of new alcoholic innovations set to launch this year.
