Care home giant, Barchester Healthcare has acquired a site formerly occupied by The Old Hall care home in Send, Surrey, via Christie & Co, for an undisclosed sum.
The Old Hall care home was previously owned by The Geoghegan Group, which purchased it as a trading care home registered for 39 service users through Christie & Co in 1997.
The company obtained planning permission to demolish the property and build a luxury care home for 60 service users. In March 2021, the business ceased trading and the site was demolished.
Christie & Co was appointed to market the site on a confidential basis and, after a targeted conversation with Barchester Healthcare - an independent care provider which runs over 260 care homes and seven registered hospitals across the UK - a sale was negotiated and agreed.
The Geoghegan Group Director, Charles Geoghegan commented, “It was a hard decision to sell this site, but we are delighted with the result.
'Having thought about developing the site ourselves, we felt that it would be more beneficial for our group to concentrate on the rehab sector and build on our other businesses’ good reputation. We are sure Barchester will build a lovely home and we wish them all the best.”
Barchester Healthcare's Land Buyer, Julian Burgess, said, “The purchase of this site demonstrates the appetite that Barchester Healthcare has for the care sector, especially in a good location such as this.
