New GM for award-winnng 5-star Bournemouth hotel

Marcus O’Leary has been appointed as the new General Manager of Bournemouth’s luxury resort, The Nici, which sucessfully launched last June.

Marcus has nearly 30 years’ international experience, primarily with Marriott Vacations Worldwide, as Vice- President of Resort Operations

He led the on-site resort experience programming for the entire brand, including resorts in Hawaii, Aruba, St Kitts, Phuket, and Bali, as well as over 50 properties on mainland USA.

Having returned from Marriott Vacations Worldwide Global HQ in Orlando, Florida, in 2020, Marcus has spent the last two years heading up the team at Iconic Luxury Hotel’s The Lygon Arms in the Cotswolds.

With further plans for expansion in 2023, O’Leary will also prove instrumental in delivering a successful hotel operating model, to be rolled out to future sites.

Eldon James, Managing Director, remarked, “We are delighted to welcome Marcus to The Nici; he joins us at a crucial time, as we enter the next phase of our five-star development – creating the UK’s most exciting new destination resort. Marcus’ experience and expertise will no doubt ensure that we create a guest experience like no other.”

Marcus enthused, “I am so excited to join The Nici, applying my international and luxury experience to this new five-star brand. The Nici is already being recognised as one of the UK’s most exciting new hotel concepts, bringing new energy to this beautiful stretch of coastline on the south coast.

'Our intention is to create a year-round destination hotel, that brings the best global inspiration to the UK.”

The Nici has already received several accolades including being named The Times ‘Seaside Hotel of the Year for 2023’ and clinching Gold at the DMB Tourism Awards, jointly winning the ‘Large Hotel of the Year’ category.

Having completed the first phase of refurbishment, with a £20m investment so far, the hotel has 84 luxury bedrooms, many with sea views, garden hot tub suites, the South Beach Restaurant, Bar & Terrace, an indoor cinema and new meetings and events facilities.

The Nici is now embarking on the next stage of development, building on its five-star hotel concept with the addition of a 30m feature outdoor pool, luxury spa, state-of-the-art fitness facilities and holiday cottages, set to complete this spring.
