Hot drinks are a big business in the UK and the latest data from the NPD Group shows hot drinks are included in 25% of UK out-of-home visits.
Coffee has continued to dominates, when Brits choose a hot drink, making up 70% of those visits, while tea captures a more modest 26%.
In the year until July 2019, there were 29bn servings of food and drink in total in the out of home market. Coffee servings were up by 1.5% in that period to 488m servings.
There was a total spend of £57bn in the total out of home food and drink market, just under £1bn is hot drinks, with coffee representing 68% of sales.
Interestingly, the data also revealed that almost half (48%) of coffee consumed is provided by contract caterers with coffee shops having a much smaller role at 14%.
