Ashai to acquire SABMiller brands for £2bn

Japan's largest brewer, Asahi is to acquire the Peroni and Grolsch beer brands from SABMiller for £2bn, including London-based Meantime Brewing Company.

The brands, which are currently part of the SABMiller portfolio, have to be sold to meet competition regulations which wil allow the group's takeover by Anheuser-Busch InBev.

Under the terms of the acquisition, agreed in October, AB InBev is paying £44 a share for SABMiller in a deal worth about £70bn.
