GBK plans major expansion drive under new owner

Casual dining chain, Gourmet Burger Kitchen is to double its portfolio to 150 sites and create over 2,500 jobs, as part of expansion plans under its new owner.

The company, which currently has around 2,000 employees and operates 75 restaurants, was snapped up by Famous Brands last month for £120m.

GBK's new boss, Alasdair Murdoch, has now got the green light to open 12 to 15 new restaurants a year.

The burger chain's latest aquisition is a unit in the £45m Redrock development in Stockport, which is due to open in 2017.
