Jamavar to celebrate Diwali with specially created dinner

Leela Palaces-owned Jamavar restaurant, which specialises in regional Indian dishes, will be celebrating the Hindu festival of light on 15 October with an exclusive dinner.

This one-off ‘Suits & Saree’s’ dinner will see Executive Chef, Rohit Ghai, create a decadent six course Diwali menu.

Ghai’s lavish menu will begin with Tellicherry Pepper & Garlic Soft Shell Crab with damson chutney and garlic chips, followed by Malai Stone Bass Tikka, mace, green cardamom and avocado chutney; and Achari Chicken Tikka, pickling spices, radish and raita.

A choice of two main courses will see Old Delhi butter chicken, made with Suffolk corn-fed char-grilled and pulled chicken, fresh tomato and fenugreek, or Kachhi Mirch Ka Gosht, kid goat spiced with green peppercorns and balanced with yogurt.

To end on a sweet note, the indulgent Chilli Chikki Lava Chocolate Fondant with cinnamon kulfi and caramelized pecans, will complete the menu.

Drawing on the custom of wearing new and beautiful clothes for Diwali, guests will be encouraged to wear their finest, be it traditional Indian attire, tuxedos or gowns, bringing back a sense of formality and glamour to the proceedings. The restaurant itself will be adorned with candles and lights to signify the joy and triumph over evil and darkness which is at the heart of the Diwali festivities.

Co-Founder Samyukta Nair said, “Diwali is such an important part of Indian culture, and is one of the biggest festivals of the year, where everybody comes together to celebrate. I wanted to bring that sense of occasion for Diwali and recreate it here in London, so a Suits & Saree’s dinner seemed like the perfect way to mark it; everybody in their finest regalia, surrounded by the beautiful candlelight, enjoying a spectacular feast.”

An optional drinks pairing of whisky or wine will also be available as selected by Operations Director, Abhi Sangwan, and will include a 16-year-old Lagavulin Whiskey accompanying Adraki Lamb Chops, royal cumin, crushed onion, fennel and ginger; while hints of apricot and apple from a Rampur single malt perfectly pairs with Chilli Chikki Lava Chocolate Fondant.
