Carluccio’s, the 103-strong group of Italian restaurants founded by the late Antonio Carluccio, have announced that it will remove plastic straws from all of its eateries by the end of the month.
A sustainable, biodegradable paper alternative will be available to customers who specifically ask for and/or need a straw.
Mark Jones, CEO, Carluccio’s said, “In 2017, Carluccio’s used 1.5 million straws across its UK business and around half a million in London alone. Operating a large national group means we have the power to make a real difference. Removing plastic straws, is us playing our part in reducing the volume of plastic that significantly damages our environment and wildlife”.
Carluccio’s have always been at the forefront of environmental initiatives. As well as being a founder member of the Sustainable Restaurant Association (SRA), it was one of the first hospitality groups to be awarded a Three Star rating by them. In 2014, Carluccio’s scooped the ‘Award for Innovation’ at the SRA Awards.
