Travelodge opens 7th Cornwall hotel with £50m plans for 8 more there

Today, the UK’s first budget hotel chain, Travelodge, has officially opened its first hotel in Camborne Redruth, and announced it is actively seeking a further eight hotel sites across the county.

This expansion programme could represent an investment of £50m for third party investors, a job creation of 160 jobs and boost Travelodge’s portfolio to 15 hotels which would make it the largest budget hotel chain in Cornwall. Potential locations include: Bude, Falmouth, Isles of Scilly, Looe/Fowey, Newquay, Penzance, St Ives and Truro.

Camborne Redruth Travelodge was officially opened today by Gary Steele, Travelodge South West Regional Director. The new hotel represents an investment of £5m for the landlord and has created 15 new jobs within the community.

Camborne Redruth Travelodge, a 63-room hotel with an onsite car park is the company’s 571st hotel and its seventh property in Cornwall. It is conveniently located on Trevenson Gateway, Gas Lane, Camborne, less than a third of a mile away from the A30, which is the main route through Devon and Cornwall. Rooms are available from £29 and can be booked at www.travelodge.co.uk.

Camborne Redruth Travelodge has been styled in the company’s contemporary brand design and offers family, double and accessible rooms. Our rooms feature the company’s signature luxurious king size bed called the ‘Travelodge Dreamer bed’ which sits within a mood lighting surround with bedside USP ports and spacious shelves for charging devices.

To help ensure guests attain a good night sleep, all rooms feature the following:
· A sleep inducing décor colour palette to create a warm and cosy ambiance
· LED ceiling lighting which provides a softer look and feel to the room
· A Comfort Cooling system enabling guests to personalise their ideal room temperature
· Soundproof Italian acoustic doors
· All family rooms include two individual beds for children.

In addition, all rooms have a 32 inch Freeview TV and free in-room tea & coffee making facilities.

Gary Steele said, “I am delighted to officially open our first hotel in Camborne Redruth. Our new 571st Travelodge hotel is a great addition and is ideally located to help attract new visitors to the area. This is great news for the local economy as previous research suggests that on average, Travelodge customers will spend double their room price with local businesses during their stay.”

“The Cornwall economy is growing at pace, and as the UK’s top staycation destination, visitor numbers are increasing year on year, however there is still a shortage of good quality accommodation at a great value price. Therefore to meet this growing consumer demand, we are actively looking for hotel sites in the following locations: Bude, Falmouth, Isles of Scilly, Looe/Fowey, Newquay, Penzance, St Ives and Truro. This proposed expansion programme could boost Travelodge’s portfolio to 15 hotels in Cornwall and create around 160 new jobs.”

Camborne-Redruth Travelodge is being managed by Julian Knowles. Before the hotel opened, he received a record 1,000 number of applications from people wanting to join his 15 strong hotel team. The calibre of candidates was so high, that Julian hired his full team in just one day.

Julian Knowles, Camborne-Redruth Travelodge Hotel Manager, said, “I am very proud to have built a fantastic team who are as passionate as me about delivering great customer service. Our new hotel has got off to a flying start and we are set for a busy festive season. It looks like we will be the town’s spare room provider as lots of locals have booked rooms for their family and friends who are visiting this Christmas.”
