Deliveroo turns six & reveals expansion plans

Deliveroo, the British food delivery company, is celebrating its sixth birthday and served its first order 6 years ago in London. The service is now available in over 500 towns and cities around the world, delivering millions of meals to hungry customers.

Deliveroo will be giving away 6,000 Greggs' classic sausage and vegan sausage rolls for free across London on Friday 1 March to celebrate.

To mark the occasion, Deliveroo has revealed its expansion plans for the UK in 2019. Deliveroo is rapidly onboarding new restaurants as demand for its service grows and is now working with 20,000 takeaways and restaurants in the UK. The company is set to launch in an additional 8 UK towns in the next month and plans on adding more than 40 by the end of the year, bringing food freedom to even more Brits.

This comes as Deliveroo is set to roll out new innovations that will bring even more choice to consumers. This year, Deliveroo will launch ‘click and collect’, which will give customers the option to order food for collection on its platform. Deliveroo wants consumers to have options for every occasion, which this new feature will help to achieve. This will be available from thousands of restaurants on the platform by the end of the year.

Alaturka Doner in Coventry is the latest takeaway to join Deliveroo, marking Deliveroo’s 20,000th delivery partner in the UK alone. By working with Deliveroo, restaurants and takeaways can increase their revenue by up to 30%, with many partners seeing orders placed at traditionally quiet times like Sunday evenings. Notable recent additions to Deliveroo’s marketplace include British burger chain Lucky Chip and London’s famous Isabel restaurant.

Will Shu, Deliveroo’s CEO and first ever rider, said, “Six years ago I never thought we’d get the chance to work with the likes of Gregg’s or Pizza Express. Now we’re in 14 countries across the globe, boast one of Britain’s biggest tech teams and are supporting some of the UK’s best takeaways and restaurants.

'As we look to the future we want to continue to provide our amazing restaurant partners across the UK with incremental revenue, continue to offer our riders with great flexible and well-paid work, and of course give our customers the very best food delivery service around.”

Recently Deliveroo signed up favourite British bakery Greggs and will be giving out thousands of their famous sausage rolls to Brits as part of their birthday celebrations.

Through the support and infrastructure provided by Deliveroo, London born Yoobi Sushi has successfully launched its business internationally this month. Powered by Deliveroo Editions, hubs of delivery-only super kitchens, Yoobi Sushi has now taken up residence in Courbevoie, serving Parisians their amazing Brazilian inspired sushi.

Following its launch in Kuwait last week Deliveroo is announcing its upcoming launch in 8 additional towns, with further expansion plans slated for later in 2019. Deliveroo will shortly be operational in Sunderland, Dartford, Paisley, Birkenhead, Grays, Blackburn, Doncaster and Ashford.
