Abokado appoints first MD on International Women’s Day

Abokado has appointed its first ever Managing Director today on International Women’s Day as the company sets its sights on further growth.

Kara Alderin, who joined the company in February 2018 as Operations Director, has been promoted to Managing Director and will now join the Board.

The company, which boasts a number of women in senior and management positions, said it was proud to announce this new appointment on International Women’s Day.

Abokado co-founder and CEO, Mark Lilley said, “I’m delighted to be promoting Kara into this role. During her relatively short time with us she’s proven herself as immensely capable. The Board have been particularly impressed with her ability to understand the big picture and set strategic direction.

“Kara not only believes in the long-term vision for Abokado but also lives and breathes our values. When you’ve founded a business it’s not easy to start letting go of the reins. I imagine it’s like giving a step parent shared custody of your child. It’s great to have finally found someone who Lindsay and I can trust to help steer the ship.”

Alderin, who grew up in Norfolk, began her career in hospitality at the young age of 15, working in the hotel and inns sector while studying hospitality management. In 2009, she joined London’s independent pub operator Fuller’s, where she developed through the business rising to Head of Operations, before leaving to join Abokado at the start of 2018.

Alderin said, “Abokado is an incredibly vibrant and exciting brand to work for and I’m thrilled to be helping the company move into its next chapter. Watch this space.”
