Bovey Castle for sale for £17.5m

The only five-star luxury hotel and country estate in Devon, Bovey Castle, has been put on the Market for £17.5m, nearly £10m less that its current owners paid for the property six years ago. The 64-bedroom hotel, located within the Dartmoor National Park is currently owned by property investment company Delancey who bought the hotel in 2006 with its then joint partner Hillwood Hotels & Resorts from Peter De Savary for £26.4m. Previously operating 4 hotels including Bovey Castle, Delencey and Hillwood sold their hotel in Jersey last year and their Bailbrook House hotel near bath is now also up for sale for £6.95m. They continue to run their new build Brooklands hotel in Weybridge, Surry and have no plans to sell this. However Delancey explained that Hilwood Hotels & Resorts no longer existed as an umbrella brand, with all the hotels owned by property clients of Delancey operating as individual entities. Bovey Castle, which was built by the heir to the WH Smith stationery chain in a neo-Elizabethan style, includes an 18-hole golf course, 14 three-bedroom lodges and two gatehouses, within a 275-acre estate.
