New Bun House opening date revealed

On 16 April, Bun House will open the doors to its new Chinatown restaurant on Lisle Street, marking the occasion with a seasonal Easter Bunny bun special.

Known for their creative takes on the traditional Chinese steamed bun, Bun House will serve up a fluffy steamed bun, injected with orange-spiked dark chocolate and served in true Easter bunny style, complete with bunny ears and fluffy tail. Londoners will be able to get their hands on the bunny buns throughout the fortnight from opening.

Bun House’s new home will continue its focus on the traditional Cantonese steamed buns, with two brand new additions joining the menu; Beef Brisket and a soft, brioche-style Pineapple Bun.

Much-loved menu stalwarts will remain, with the char siu pork belly Pig Bun, the cumin-spiked lamb and the cult-favourite, sweet custard bun all taking their place on the menu. At the new opening, the Bun House team will be serving up new rice dishes including the Scallion Chicken and Chilli Marinated egg which will also be available to takeaway.

The restaurant will also pay homage to Hong Kong’s dai pai dong food stalls, with a small hatch inside the restaurant serving up traditional street food style snacks such as curried fish balls and Cheung Fun (traditional rice noodle rolls topped wok-fried vegetables). Drinks will celebrate Hong Kong’s burgeoning craft beer scene, working closely with breweries such as Moonzen and Young Master, whilst elsewhere on the menu there’ll be a range of tea-based cocktails and cold brewed tea.

On entering, guests will find the counter with its steaming baskets of buns, leading through to a 16-cover dining space dotted with round tables. Heading upstairs, the first floor space is designed with slow afternoons in mind, with diners encouraged to grab a few snacks and settle down to enjoy at one of the 40 seats.

Co-founder Z He said, “Something we enjoy about our job is the chance to be creative. From our red Rudolph buns to celebrate Christmas, followed by our piggy buns to ring in the Chinese new year, to our now bunny bun Easter special, we get to enjoy what we do here at Bun House even more. We’re looking forward to welcoming everyone to our new restaurant in Chinatown and can’t wait for everyone to try our bunny buns!'
