Wahaca reports annual turnover increase but losses rise too


Mexican street food restaurant chain, Wahaca has posted an annual turnover rise in 2018 but pre-tax losses have also risen, according to filings by parent company, Oaxaca.

The casual dining group's turnover has grown to £47.9m in the year to 24 June 2018, from £46.6m the previous year. Hoever, pre-tax losses stood at £4.85m, compared to £4.74m the previous year.

The company stated, “The group operates in a very competitive market which is constantly bringing new concepts and products to the expanding customer base; however we believe that by focusing on looking after and investing in our people the quality and sustainability of our products and customer service that the Wahaca concept offers customers a unique experience that in the long run that gives us a competitive advantage.”

Formed in 2007, Wahaca offers burritos, tacos, sides, salads, and desserts, with tequila, mezcal, cocktails and mocktails, wine and beers. The brand new Spicy Churros Tacos is pictured and is made from crispy sweet churros, topped with homemade pink pickled onions, chipotle mayo and a little cup of dark chocolate on the side.

There are currently 17 London restaurants and 9 sites outside the capital situated across the UK from Brighton to Edinburgh.
