Deliveroo reveals winners of £75k restaurant makeover competition.

After the public vote has come to a close, Deliveroo today is announcing the winners of its debut restaurant makeover competition.

Wigan’s Cafe Santos, Leicester’s Bombay Bites and Mario’s Plaice from Glasgow are three independent restaurants that captured the hearts of the British public and will each win a makeover of their premises and/or equipment worth a whopping £25k.

Deliveroo’s Restaurant Makeover project was launched to support independent restaurants and the Great British highstreet. Since it launched in 2013 Deliveroo has created a staggering 25,000 jobs in the UK restaurant industry, with 32% of these jobs being in the independent sector.

Ash Sherafatian, owner of Cafe Santos, commented, “From the bottom of my heart, thank you Deliveroo and our customers for this opportunity. I can’t describe with words how we feel right now - this will be a new life line for our business.”

Moukid Muslim, Bombay Bites' owner, (pictured) said “The Bombay Bites team is delighted about this announcement. It is thanks to the hard work and dedication of the whole team at Bombay Bites, we have achieved such a landmark. This achievement will give us even more strength and resilience to work harder, to provide excellent customer service, tasty food and all round quality takeaway experience.”

Mario Simeone, owner of Mario’s Plaice, said, “Everyone at Mario’s Plaice is honoured to win the Deliveroo Makeover Competition. We would like to give a huge thank you to everyone who voted for us and shared the competition on social media. We hope with the prize money we can improve our Deliveroo service and continue to keep our customers happy.”

Deliveroo's contribution to the restaurant industry and wider economy in the UK is mirrored in its overseas markets. If Deliveroo continues to grow at the same rate, Capital Economics estimate that the company will create over 176,000 jobs in the restaurant sectors in the markets in which it operates.

Deliveroo is committed to helping restaurants succeed. Whilst the industry is facing increasing cost pressures, Deliveroo is supporting them by not only helping them increase their revenue, including through the company's delivery-only Editions kitchens programme, creating 'virtual brands' so restaurants can expand their menus, and also by negotiating deals with a range of providers to reduce their day-to-day costs such as energy bills and kitchenware.
