Sweet Chick set to open on Monday in Fitzrovia

The opening date for Sweet Chick, the cult chicken and waffle restaurant hailing from New York City, has been confirmed as 30 September.

The brand's first London restaurant will open its doors at 5pm for dinner on Market Place Oxford Circus next Monday.

Founded in Brooklyn by restaurateur John Seymour in 2013, and backed by rapper Nas, Sweet Chick serves its take on modern American comfort food across five locations in New York and LA.

Sweet Chick’s first UK outpost will of course feature all the fried chicken (brined overnight in a sweet tea-stained brine) and waffles. Opt for a classic version with your choice of waffles including spiced pecan or bacon and cheddar; or mix things up with a speciality Nashville hot sauce or states-style BBQ chicken.

Southern inspired classics such as ‘Shrimp & Grits’ and ‘Biscuits & Gravy’ sit alongside new specials influenced by Sweet Chick’s British home; and are accompanied by comforting sides such as Mac and Cheese, with not one, not two, but THREE types of cheese and a Ritz cracker crumble.

A Brooklyn style bar – illuminated by a bright pink neon sign declaring ‘it was all a dream’ (an ode to the Notorious B.I.G.) – serves an extensive drinks list. Signature cocktails include ‘Tiger, Tiger Wood Y’all’ (Bourbon, Cognac, Lemon, Honey & Iced Tea) and the namesake ‘Sweet Chick’ (Vodka, Triple-Sec, Watermelon & Lemon). Local beers, including collaboration brews, will also be available from London Fields Brewery.

Founder John Seymour said: “I can’t wait to bring the Sweet Chick community to the UK. The food scene is massive in London, but we hope we can offer something fresh with our take on southern inspired staples and the best fried chicken and waffles this side of the Atlantic.”
