Takeover series set for Pick & Cheese conveyer belt

Pick & Cheese, the world’s only cheese conveyer belt at Seven Dials Market, will play host to some of the biggest and best names in cheese with ‘Heavyweights of Cheese', their new series of one-off belt takeovers.

Kicking off on Wednesday 27 November with Paxton & Whitfield, the UK’s oldest cheesemonger, the series will see each guest cheesemonger take over the belt for one night only, showcasing their signature cheeses with unique condiments, hot dishes, desserts and a selection of drink pairings. Other mongers in the takeover series include La Fromagerie, Neal’s Yard Dairy and Mons.

Founded in 1797 and holder of two Royal Warrants, Paxton & Whitfield has been one of the most respected names in the British cheese industry for over 200 years. From 6pm on 27 November they will be loading up the conveyor belt with their best cheeses, including Paxton’s Cave Aged Cheddar with Celery Sea Salt Oaties and Proper Piccalilli.

Long-time champion of British cheese, The Cheese Bar will be allowing artisan continental European cheeses from Paxton & Whitfield through their doors for the first time: such as Ossau Iraty with 'Nuts about Prunes', a rich prune preserve with toasted hazelnuts, and Giorgo Cravero Parmigiano Reggiano with whipped sea salt honey.

Paxton & Whitfield will be dishing up an off-belt traditional Tartiflette made with Reblochon and for dessert an indulgent Mont d'Or ice cream with truffle honey and honeycomb, produced in collaboration with Happy Endings.

Alongside Pick & Cheese’s natural-focused wine list, guests can also sip on a glass of Paxton & Whitfield’s Vintage Port.

Founder of Pick & Cheese, Mathew Carver said, “I’m beyond excited to welcome some of the UK’s most respected cheesemongers to the belt, we can’t wait to see what each of them brings! Serving great cheese is what Pick & Cheese is all about and these guys do it better than anyone else.”

Annie Meakin, key account manager from Paxton & Whitfield, added, “We are really looking forward to what is sure to be a wonderful celebration of cheese with Pick & Cheese. It’s such a great opportunity for London’s oldest cheesemonger to collaborate with one of the newest and most innovative cheese offerings around.

'It has been fantastic for our team to explore our range in a new way in order to discover some exciting and creative pairings that we hope will stand out on the belt.”

Next up on 29 January, the famed Patricia Michelson of La Fromagerie will bring her French-focused favourites to Pick & Cheese.

Cheese-lovers can expect Brie aux Truffle, a Brie de Meaux with a special mix of creme fraiche, mascarpone and black truffles, served with Charcoal Biscuits and paired with Michelson’s house Champagne; Beaufort Chalet d’Alpage with fig roll; and Old Groendal, a farmhouse hand-made aged cheese from Belgium in the Gouda style, served with an ale chutney and paired with a Kernel IPA.

Then on 26 February, Neal’s Yard Dairy will take the guest cheese spot, followed by Mons Cheesemongers on 25 March.

Heavyweights of Cheese will be a non-ticketed event, available on a first-come first-served basis running from 6pm till 10pm.
