Greene King partners with Licensed Trade Charity to support publicans

Greene King Pub Partners has launched a partnership with the Licensed Trade Charity to ensure its partners have access to practical advice and support offered to all those working in the industry.

The leased and tenanted pub company is enclosing the charity’s details in its induction packs for all new licensees and has also shared information about the charity with partners on its in-house magazine and through its weekly communication channels to partners.

The Licensed Trade Charity runs a helpline that is available 24/7, 365 days a year offering advice and support to callers from the licensed trade who have access to six free telephone counselling sessions.

The charity’s goal is to help people in the trade to get back on their feet and in 2018 they helped over 13,000 people and gave away almost £1.1m in grants.

Paula Smith, Head of Marketing for the Licensed Trade Charity, said, “We’re so pleased to be collaborating with Greene King to support the teams who work within their leased and tenanted estate.

“We’re working closely with the business development team to ensure that everyone is made aware of and has access to our website and helpline so that they can make contact if they need to. We’re looking forward to building a close working relationship that recognises the importance Greene King places on supporting their people.”

Greene King Pub Partners managing director Wayne Shurvinton is further supporting the charity next year when he takes part in the charity’s Pedalling for Pubs initiative – a combined 335km bike ride across Jordan in June 2020 in aid of the Licensed Trade Charity as well as the Only A Pavement Away charity.

He said, “It’s really important to recognise that people in all walks of life sometimes need someone they can turn to for help. Running a pub is a passion for many but it can also be a challenge if someone is having to run their own business and deal with separate issues in their personal lives.

“Thankfully the Licensed Trade Charity are there to help with everything from coping with bereavement and relationship difficulties, to dealing with stress and loneliness. They can also offer guides to coping with serious illness in a family. If anyone is concerned about their health or that of a colleague I’d recommend they contact the charity to see what support they can access.

“I’m proud Pub Partners are promoting their amazing work and am looking forward to being part of the Pedalling for Pubs team next year!”
