Greene King boosts managed & tenanted pub ops teams

Greene King has further bolstered its operations teams across its pub estate with the appointment of a number of new operations directors and operations managers, who have been promoted from within the business after several years’ loyal service.

The leased and tenanted Pub Partners division has promoted Phil Arnold and Steve Look as new operations directors, with Phil now looking after the south-east region and Steve responsible for multiple operators, concept development and the independence estate.

Both Steve and Phil joined Greene King in 2002 as BDMs before taking on operations manager roles in recent years. Phil also spent time as the Pub Partners recruitment manager based at the Bury St Edmunds head office. Steve initially joined the managed division for Greene King London Locals and moved to Pub Partners in 2005, going on to hold a number of different BDM roles across East Anglia before most recently working nationwide looking after the independence estate and growing new concepts.

Steve’s role is newly-created and brings the number of Greene King Pub Partners operations directors to four, allowing the division to adopt a more tailored approach to working with multiple operators.

Commenting on the changes, Greene King Pub Partners managing director Wayne Shurvinton said: “I’m delighted that we have been able to recognise the outstanding talent we have within our own business and promote Phil and Steve to operations director roles. They have both worked for Greene King for 17 years and have a wealth of experience in the industry.”

In the managed estate, BDMs have recently been promoted into interim operations manager roles with Matt Gaunt covering the north of England and Neil Gregory for Greater London. The pair have both worked for Greene King in BDM roles for several years before the recent promotions.

Neil joined Greene King when he was 18 years old in 2001 and has progressed from bar staff to general manager, then to BDM and now onto his new role.

“Once I started working in hospitality I fell in love with the buzz and love it when we can help people progress within the company,” he said.

Matt worked for the Spirit Pub Company prior to the acquisition by Greene King in 2015 and worked as a Flaming Grill BDM before taking on his new role in the Locals North team.

Locals Pubs director Karen Bosher praised the promotions: “Neil and Matt have shown a tremendous dedication towards promoting successful pubs at the hearts of their communities and both deserve this new opportunity to further build their careers with Greene King. I’d like to take the chance to wish them all well in their roles.”
