This month, newly-opened Lina Stores on Stable Street is serving up its take on ‘la colazione’ to King’s Cross, offering breakfast for the very first time.
Head Chef Masha Rener, inspired by both her Umbrian upbringing and her travels around her homeland, has created a breakfast menu of morning staples and adapted Italian classics that offers the perfect start to the day.
Guests can wake themselves up with a quintessential Italian espresso, before taking their pick from a selection of breakfast pastries.
For those who like to begin their morning with a sweet treat, just as the Italians do, ‘la colazione’ starts with sfogliatina, light puffed pastries filled with apricot or fig and topped with soft vanilla cream, bomboloni doughnuts filled with Nutella or creamy almond milk crema di riso, porridge’s lighter Italian cousin.
Elsewhere on the menu, Rener has devised a panino con porchetta, crispy roasted pork belly served in a ciabatta sandwich, or salsicca e fagioli, Tuscan fennel sausage with cannellini beans stewed in tomato and served on freshly baked pane Pugliese.
To ward off the January chill, there’s uova con tartufo - truffle scrambled eggs - or polenta e funghi, with roasted mushrooms and Parmigiano served on creamy polenta.
Rener said, “La colazione in Italy is often a very quick affair, whether you’re in Milan or Naples. With most Italians opting for a quick coffee with a sweet pastry to go or to eat at the counter of a caffè.
'We’re looking forward to welcoming locals and visitors alike for our new menu which takes a more relaxed approach, starting the day with Italian dishes - both sweet and savoury - that are perfect for the morning.”
Breakfast is available to take away at the adjoining deli with Italian pastries and cakes, as well as fresh panini made with salumi and formaggi from the counter. Coffee as well as the best Italian pantry essentials can also be ordered to go at any time of day.
Lina Stores’ King’s Cross breakfast menu is available Monday – Sunday 8am – 11.30am at both restaurant and deli.
