Borough Market to launch event series with celebrity chefs & food experts

London's Borough Market will celebrate the festive season with the launch of Christmas at Borough, a three-week event series this December featuring a roster of celebrity chefs and food personalities including Gizzi Erskine, Calum Franklin, Anna Jones and Ravneet Gil (pictured)l.

Launching next Wednesday 2 December and running Wednesdays to Fridays throughout the month, the Festive Kitchen will feature a packed schedule of live streamed activities and events hosted by a stellar cast of chefs and food experts. Featured events include cookalongs, masterclasses, interviews and Christmas cooking surgeries.

Designed to showcase the exceptional produce available at the Market, the sessions will commence on 3rd December with a live cookalong with Sorted Food’s Ben Ebbrell who’ll demonstrate his caramelised onion and squash mac 'n’ cheese.

This will be followed on 9 December by food writer Olia Hercules who’ll showcase her recipe for Ukrainian stuffed dumplings - spelt varenyky with kraut and caramelised onions. Ingredients for cookalongs are available for nationwide delivery via Borough Market Online, Borough Market’s delivery and collection service.

Other highlights from the events programme include ‘In Conversation’ sessions with chef Calum Franklin, food writer and stylist Anna Jones and lockdown ‘fakeaway’ star Gizzi Erskine. Masterclasses will be hosted by Borough Market traders including Bread Ahead, Juma Kitchen and Tomas Lidakevicius, executive chef of the Turnips restaurant pop-up.

The team has also arranged a series of Christmas cookery surgeries, providing marketgoers with expert advice from the likes of baking superstar Ravneet Gill, author Niki Webster and acclaimed Indian chef Romy Gill.

The market has remained open for essential shopping since April and will continue to build in the leadup to Christmas, extending their trading days to seven days a week and throughout December will open for late night shopping every Thursday and Friday until 9pm.

Finally, for those unable to make it to the market, Borough Market’s delivery and collection service, Borough Market Online, offers access to Market produce either by click and collect or via a carbon neutral doorstep drop delivery service which is available nationwide.

Darren Henaghan, Managing Director, said, “We know that Christmas will be different for many of us this year and we want to bring some special Borough Market cheer to London and beyond.

'The kitchen is the heart of the home at Christmas and with families and friends potentially having to stay apart, we want to encourage people to come together as a community online.

'We hope that our Borough Market Festive Kitchen events programme will act as an essential hub where people can get creative with their cooking, try out great produce from our traders, learn new skills and have exclusive access to some fantastic chefs and personalities from across the food world.”
