Chef Carlo Scotto opens Mayfair restaurant


The charismatic Neapolitan chef, Carlo Scotto, who earned rave reviews for his creative and hyper-original tasting menus at Xier, is picking up where he left off pre-pandemic with the opening of Amethyst in London's Mayfair.

Centred around a real amethyst chef’s table and an everchanging tasting menu, Carlo brings his inimitable culinary style to Mayfair’s flourishing restaurant scene with an intimate and engaging gastronomic experience.

The ground floor, featuring the amethyst (Carlo’s birthstone) and quartz Chef’s Table, seats just 21 diners in full view of the pass. Ergonomically shaped, it has been beautifully designed to ensure that each party enjoys their own space whilst providing an opportunity to interact with Carlo and his team.

Previously described as ‘an alchemist of cooking’, ultra-modern dishes are bold and ingeniously balanced, drawing inspiration from Chef Carlo’s extensive travels through Europe and Asia, in particular Scandinavia and Japan.

Whilst Amethyst offers a three and five-course lunch, alongside a six-course tasting menu, it is the 12-course experience that is the star of the show.

Each one of the meticulously prepared plates feature clever and creative flavour combinations and the menu will change regularly based on the availability of the best seasonal British produce.

Diners can expect the likes of Croquette with liquorice, tarragon and parmesan; Scallops with caviar, galangal and matsutake; Foie Gras with rose petal salmon, yuzu and Piedmont hazelnuts; Burnt Hay Black Cod; and Ras El Hanout Beef with Medjool dates and nasturtium.

On the lower ground floor, the Wine Cellar showcases Amethyst’s extensive collection of fine and rare vintages whilst offering a six-course tasting menu option in addition to the 12-courses.

Tasting menus are excellently matched with wines, courtesy of Sommelier Filippo Carnevale, and diners can choose from the Classic wine pairing or, for a truly elevated experience, the Prestige selection.

The Chef’s Table can be booked exclusively for private dinners for up to 21 diners, and the Wine Cellar can also be booked for dinners of up to 16 or drinks and canapé parties of 30.
