Tesco readied for shoppers to break all-time record ice cream sales

Brits stocking up for BBQ and outdoor food during the current heatwave are this week set to break the record for the amount of ice creams and lollies bought in a single week.

Tesco is gearing up for the record demand after shoppers nearly broke the all time ice cream sales record last week.

But with temperatures even hotter this week and set to hit 40C in some parts of Britain, it looks as if the record will be broken with more than nine million ice creams and lollies predicted to be sold.

There’s good news for cherry lovers after the supermarket stepped in to take surplus stock off British growers after an unexpected glut was created by the heatwave.

In order to help growers manage the surplus Tesco will be selling kilo boxes at the discounted price of £5.

As a result of the hot weather and high demand for BBQ style food and drink Tesco predicts it will this week (today till Sunday) sell:

Nearly 200,000 packs of plant-based sausages and burgers
More than 900,000 packs of BBQ meat
More than 800,000 packs of burgers
Nearly 2 million packs of sausages
More than 2.5 million packs of pre-packed fish
More than 2.5 million iceberg lettuces
More than 650,000 packs of Greek/salad cheese
Nearly 700,000 packs of rolls and baguettes
Nearly 3 million punnets of strawberries
More than 9 million bottles/cans of beer
More than 5.5 million bottles of wine
50,000 bottles of Pimms
