Horwood House unveils luxury bedroom suite refurb as part of £6m redevelopment

In the latest milestone of its extensive £6m, 18-month redevelopment programme by independently-owned Buckinghamshire hotel, Horwood House, has unveiled three fully refurbished Manor Suites in its historic Grade-II listed, 110-year-old Manor House.

The fully renovated bedrooms follow the opening of the Manor’s new look ground floor bar, lounge, wedding ceremony room and dining room in April 2022.

Located on the Manor’s top floor, the new look suites benefit from period architecture – originally designed by well-known architect Detmar Blow over 100 years ago - with vaulted ceilings, original stonework and grand bay windows synonymous with the Jacobethan era, creating three unique and individual suites.

With air-conditioning throughout, the bedrooms boast views of the tree-lined drive or picturesque lily pond, and features a king-sized bed, a spacious lounge area with a Nespresso machine, fridge and dining table, as well as a fully fitted bathroom complete with either a walk-in rainfall shower or bathtub.

The interiors, by ICA, have been impeccably designed to ensure the property’s original features blend harmoniously with modern comfort and expectations. A subtle colour scheme of pale grey and deep greens is lifted with delicate gold accents, referencing the 38-acres of gardens and grounds that surround the hotel.

Plush herringbone carpets by Oriental Weavers Hospitality ensure a warm feel throughout, with soft furnishings in fine dogtooth, soft teals and warm terracotta further enhancing the scheme.

Across the Manor House’s refurbished suites, lounge, public spaces and grand staircase signature lighting and tiered chandeliers by Imagin Global ensure a gentle and natural ambiance, that was inspired by the traditional 19th century heritage lighting found in many stately homes.

Layers of rich textures of buttoned leather, paisley prints and plush velvets on the ground floor echo the decor in the suites, creating a luxurious and elegant space throughout.

New commissioned artwork explores the landmark events of 1911 such as the coronation of King George V and Queen Mary, along with the publication of The Secret Garden, and works by DH Lawrence.

Caroline Morrone, General Manager, shared, “As we look ahead to a busy second half of the year, we are delighted that the latest phase of the refurbishment to our historical Manor House is now complete.

'Working closely with our designers, we have preserved the Manor’s character and heritage, whilst carefully adding thoroughly modern ways to meet, relax and indulge yourself.

'We are committed to elevating Horwood House and positioning it as the go-to destination for hospitality from the heart. Our new look Manor House forms an integral part of this transition.”

Acquired in 2019 by ZIZ Properties, the Manor House has been redeveloped in partnership with design studio ICA. Work on the six Junior suites begins in early 2023.

With a rich history dating back across many centuries, Horwood House started out as a farmhouse circa 300 years ago, before being upgraded to a working family home in the early 1900s by Frederick Denny, a local businessman who made his fortune in the bacon trade.

Since then, the building has been best known as the birthplace of the famous TV gardener, Percy Thrower, who created the hotels famous lily pond and the beautifully manicured Pytheas Gardens that surround the hotel which have proved to be a rich source of inspiration for the new interior scheme within the Manor’s refurbishment.
