The green light has been given for the central square and landscaping plans of Cambridge University’s £1bn new town.
Plans for the local centre were approved by the local council and include a supermarket, shops, doctors’ surgery, police station and energy centre, formed around a market square.
Known as lot 1 of the phase one of the North West Cambridge scheme, the project is expected to cost around £280m to build. It covers 155 hectares and will include 530 key-worker homes, over 300 student bed spaces and the local centre.
Works on the North West Cambridge Development infrastructure will start this year with phased completions from late 2015-16.
