Celtic Manor Resort plans new conference centre creating 150 jobs

Celtic Manor Resort in Newport has submitted plans to build a new conference centre, with the creation of up to 150 jobs. The application says that currently the hotel is ‘regularly’ having to turn away conference enquiries.

The 322,917 sq ft Wales International Convention Centre would include a multi-storey car park with 1,500 parking spaces.

The site would offer an exhibition hall and main auditorium which will cater for a capacity of 4,000 delegates, requiring 30,000 sq metres of building over three floors.

The Celtic Manor, which played host to the Ryder Cup in 2010, currently employs 760 people but expects that number to go up to 910 over the next 10 years if the centre goes ahead.

The resort anticipates the construction of the centre to take two years.
