Brewers Wells & Youngs has joined Indian restaurant wholesales Gandhi Wine to launch a new beer, Mongoose. The beer is aimed at Indian restaurants to rival Cobra and the name was chosen as a mongoose can outsmart a cobra. Mongoose Premium Indian Beer is brewed to an original Indian recipe created by Wells & Youngs 15 years ago. Mongoose will be introduced into the Indian restaurant market firstly in London and surrounding counties. Since 1997, Wells & Youngs was contracted to brew Cobra but when the brand entered administration the brewers lost £1.9m. Cobra was bought out of administration by founder Lord Karan Bilimoria and Molson Coors.
