Kolamba to debut in London W1

Shaftesbury has announced that Sri Lankan concept, Kolamba will open its debut restaurant at 21 Kingly Street, Carnaby this autumn.

Hailed as offering ‘big flavours from a small island’, Kolamba will bring bold, authentic flavourings of Sri Lankan cuisine to the heart of the West End across the two floors of their 1,300 sq ft restaurant.

The concept is based on owners Eroshan and Aushi Meewella’s belief that the best food is home-cooked food, a belief that is translated through signature dishes which pay tribute to the family and friends behind some of the most memorable meals they have eaten on the island.

The menu will feature many vegetarian (and naturally vegan) dishes, reflecting the creative way vegetables and fruits are used in Sri Lanka, including Kumar’s pineapple curry and an island favourite ‘Ala Thel Dala’ – richly spiced potatoes softened and fried with onions and chilli.

Eroshan Meewella, owner, Kolamba says: “Carnaby was the only choice (even within Soho) – walking around we felt the sense of community, vibrancy and frenetic energy that reminded us greatly of home. It has a fantastic ethos of authentic globally diverse and like-minded souls all celebrating their cultures and food stories.”

Julia Wilkinson, Group Restaurant Strategy Executive, Shaftesbury said, “Kolamba’s contemporary take on traditional Sri Lankan cuisine will enrich the global dining offering in Carnaby.

'It will add to the diverse array of restaurants along Kingly Street, including Jinjuu, Wright Brothers Soho and Dishoom and nearby Kingly Court which includes; Darjeeling Express, The Rum Kitchen and Shoryu.

'The new opening reaffirms Carnaby’s position as the most exciting and unique eating and drinking destination in the heart of London’s West End.”
