Costcutter Supermarkets Group (CSG) has updated its CPoS system in less than a week to allow the contactless payment increase to £45. This means that over 850 pinpads across 415 CPoS Stores will be able to offer their shoppers the contactless payment increase in time for the Easter weekend.
With this rapid update in place, shoppers at those stores can now buy a larger basket of products while maintaining social distancing and avoiding hand to hand contact via cash payment.
David Morris, CSG IT Director, said, “The industry challenge was to complete the rollout to £45 contactless payment by the end of April but thanks to the incredible efforts of colleagues and in partnership with our financial software provider FIS, we managed to do that in less than a week.
'We’re doing everything we can to support our retailers during this critical time and we’re delighted that so many of our retailers will be able to give their shoppers the opportunity to increase their basket spend on contactless payment from now on.”
CSG had been ready to start making the changes on 1 April – the go live date for the increased contactless payment limit from £30 to £45. To minimise disruption, the updates were managed through overnight installations. CSG’s non-CPoS retailers are liaising with their own providers to achieve the £45 contactless payment changes as soon as possible.
CSG has already invested in social distancing equipment and bespoke floor signage to its retailers in their efforts to help keep their shoppers and staff safe in the face of the COVID-19 crisis.
The group has also developed a comprehensive guide on implementing social distancing measures in stores, which contains social media content and in-store point-of-sale materials, together with details of new services and community support that many CSG retailers are providing, including home delivery and call and collect orders.
